My Next Era
Instead of my regular Before & After...
Today I’ll be sharing how I became The Storytelling Specialist (& what I was before this!) … and I’ll also share a sneak peek into what’s unfolding next in my world.
Want the most behind-the-scenes deets I’ve ever shared publicly about my business evolution?
Keep reading to get the scoop.
How I became The Storytelling Specialist: 2020-2023
We might as well start with the auto collision.
In November 2020 I was in what I now call a “divine collision” with another vehicle. It wasn’t my fault, I was t-boned, but my car was totaled.
I spent the next year and a half dealing with debilitating migraines and many other health issues. I had never had headaches like this before, and they severely impacted my ability to work, think, and be creative.
During some of my worst moments, like when I still hadn’t regained my speech fully, I told myself I could remake my life as a farmer if I needed to 😮 I told myself I could give up writing and communicating and design. I could do it, I promised myself.
It really was that serious and I didn’t know how or when I would recover.
But as each step unfolded, I wanted to try restructuring how I worked first.
Site in a Day was born from that tragic time. I built the service around thoughtful market research and what I thought I could reliably produce - just 1 day's work.
When I first started, I rested 6 days of the week and worked one day a week–really!
This make-do service soon became one of my most popular services and it altered my outlook on what I thought was possible in web design and productivity.
Clients were super eager to see the quick progress we could make with intentional focus.
And I felt immense freedom in being able to focus one day at a time on one project. Collectively 20+ websites have been launched through Site in a Day and I’m immensely proud of it.
But before we go too far down this road, wanna back way way up?
The Retirement Era: 2015-2020
Before The Storytelling Specialist, I was just Victoria Lucia.
I was in between gigs and I had a 3-month runway before I needed to find work. I went on a 10-day silent meditation retreat and when I came back I still didn’t know what I wanted to do for work but I knew how I wanted it to feel.
And the feeling I was looking for was retired. I wanted to live like I was retired.
That meant slow mornings sleeping in until my body wanted to wake up. Eating well. Seeing the sun and exercising. Living a life I loved and with intentional joy.
I had a friend comment years later how unique that was for her to see - that I focused on how I wanted to feel and be and create a life that fit that.
Long story short I took a skill I had used just for fun for years (websites) and started helping more and more small business owners take control of their online presence.
The Freedom & Impact Era: 2024+
Coming back to the future: I want more freedom for my next evolution.
For the last 4 years I’ve been working on launching online courses and a template shop and it’s finally here. More details coming in early 2024.
This new era will come under a refreshed brand and will help me support many more coaches, thought leaders, authors, and course creators.
It’ll challenge me to teach what I do naturally, and scale beyond what I can do alone.
I’m ready for it.
Why am I sharing all this? Because our businesses evolve just like we do.
This world–this universe–is forever changing and growing. So are you and so is your business.
There’s nothing extra we have to become that’s more than we already are before we can contribute to others. We can start today. We can start this year – or next.
But whatever you do, don’t wait.
We don’t know how much time we’re gifted, and we may never fathom the impact we’ll make.
So prioritize progress over perfect end results.
Normalize celebrating our intentions, visions, and working towards something as we diminish our own sense of failure and never enough-ness.
We don’t have to be perfect. We just have to get started.
