Timeless Wisdom for Click-Worthy Emails

This week’s topic is so important and can feel SO hard to implement in real life: email marketing.

I find many people who are so kind and selfless that sending more than one email per YEAR can feel way too much for their personality.

Don’t worry! I’ve simplified my tips into timeless wisdom that’s totally non-scary.

Let’s dive in.

Timeless Wisdom #1: Assess Your Existing Email List:

Before you dive into crafting the perfect email strategy, take a moment to evaluate your existing email list.

  • Is it a cold list? Have you emailed them in the last 3-6 months?

  • Have subscribers potentially moved on to a different life stage?

  • Are your current subscribers organic (like they signed up for a free download from you)?

  • Or are there remnants of your friends and family on your current list?

  • Or, maybe you have some stragglers from your last business on your current email list!

Understanding the current state of your list will set the right expectations for how engaged your existing audience will be to new emails. Emailing to cold subscribers or to people who aren’t in the right stage of business or life won’t get you the same results as sending messages to the exact right person.

On the flip side, maybe you realize that this email list is growing every week and is eager and ripe to hear from you. Knowing that would change your email strategy!

Assessing your existing email list makes sense, right? But don’t worry if you’ve got a cold list. Keep reading to Timeless Wisdom #2.

Timeless Wisdom #2: Put on Your Blinders

Just like a racehorse with blinders on focuses on the track ahead, you need to narrow your focus when it comes to your email marketing strategy.

While it's natural to notice what your existing audience read or clicked on last week, it's even more important to keep your ideal customer in mind.

Your ideal customers are the individuals you genuinely want to work with, and tailoring your message to them will not only attract the right clientele but also foster stronger connections. They’ll feel like you’re speaking directly to them, not sending a general message to everyone.

So as much as you want to evaluate how good you’re doing by what happened in the past, I give you permission to keep refining your message and strategy towards the future you’re aiming towards.

Timeless Wisdom #3: Speak Directly to Your Ideal Customer

Simply put, your emails are a direct line of communication to your target audience.

Knowing the dreams, desires, hesitations, and considerations of your ideal customer will guide what you say in your emails and how your emails feel to open and read.

Focusing your email content is a practical way to ensure that your emails connect better with the people you most want to serve. While you may have the capacity to work with a broad range of clients, having a specific target in mind helps maintain a cohesive and authentic brand message.

Bottom line: regardless of who is on your list now, try to focus on what you’d say to the perfect potential customer in an email about your products or services.

Timeless Wisdom #4: Recognize the Natural Lifecycle of Your Email List

Let’s be real, it’s totally normal for email lists to grow stale over time.

Even if you provide valuable services and support, individuals may outgrow the need for your offerings. This is a natural part of the business cycle. Personally, I try not to put too much weight on my “unsubscribe rate” for this reason.

When you embrace the fact that you and your audience will evolve, you can choose to grow with them providing new offerings or continue to market to the same ideal client but consistently bring in new traffic.

You can do this and you’re not alone.

I know you know this, but please let me remind you that writing click-worthy emails will help you contribute your gifts to the world. Email campaigns help your business stay in touch with your audience and solve real problems for them, while also sharing updates, and promoting your offerings or services.

With your good heart intact and leading the way, your emails reach people where they desperately need support and gently show people how you can help. That’s timeless!
